Art History round-up
Whose your favorite artist and why? This was the assignment I gave my 7th graders and I also asked them to bring in an example of the work and highlight your favorite aspects using the Activboard. I started off showing them my favorite traditional artists Francisco De Goya and Picasso. Then I showed them some nontraditional artist I follow, this included Ashley Wood and the sequential art of Bill Waterson.
I was very impressed with what the young artist brought to the table. They brought in popular works like the Mona Lisa and Starry Night. They also brought in work from their friends, comic books and advertisements. Overall a good session and I’m glad we had the Activboard to blow up the pictures and also focus on what made the work so special.

Art History meets Art’s Future
We finally got our first crack at the Activeboard this week and although I kept it simple as I’m still learning how to use the board, we had a lot of fun. Mostly used the board as a big screen to show the students ancient art work from Egypt, China and native Americans. Also introduced (most of) the kids to impressionism and Claude Monet. I don’t think they were expecting a history lesson in art class, but you have to lay a foundation to build a house. There will be time enough to create in the near future, but it’s good to know where we’ve already been.

Claude Monet, the kids liked the beard.
