Good things happening during a stressful time.

Even with the current state of the economy/world you can still find people doing good work.  I spent some time just researching and surfing for helpful/hopeful toys for my cousin’s daughter who has Autism. I found a fellow teacher who focuses on it in the classroom and there is a lot to learn:  Mizz Monica’s Stumbling Blog

Monica is an assistive technology / special needs elementary school teacher in Ohio.  As a teacher dealing with special needs students she has used technology to be connect with her young ones.  I have to agree with her assessment of the software.  I use ACTIVstudio.

There were also two great links in her post.

Learning Is Messy is a blog about technology and learning at a school in Nevada. Check it out and search for “SKYPE” and “CELESTE”. Good stuff. I was also really impressed with how he uses classroom blogging on field trips. I couldnt tell for sure, but I think he is also a Promethean user.

Teaching Learners With Multiple Special Need is a resource hub for teachers and educators working with special needs students. Tons of information. I am inspired to learn more and who knows… maybe even work in this area sometime next decade.

And then Monica’s blog has this video (incomplete, do you have the rest?):

BUT HERE IS MY GEM FOR THE DAY – On the art teacher front:

I also found Sharon Campbell…well she wasn’t lost, but I did come across this article on Edutopia.  Sharon teaches at Redwood Middle School, in Napa, California and has created an incredible classroom.  After witnessing California being crippled by rolling blackouts and a total mismanagement of energy she invested $14,000 of her family’s money to improve her classroom.  She gives much of the credit to Arnold Schwarzeneggger who infused funds into art programs around the state.  Maybe we can get Jesse Ventura or another start from The Predator to run for office in Florida.  Read the article to find out more about this classroom.
